This nationally recognised unit of competency provides learners with the skills and knowledge required to apply a Fatigue Risk Management System when operating within the Transport and Logistics industry.
It includes applying fatigue risk management strategies, identifying, and acting on signs of fatigue. operating within a fatigue risk management system, planning, and navigating trips, updating and maintaining records, complying with work and rest limits, and implementing appropriate strategies to minimise fatigue during work activities.
Work is performed under some supervision as a single operator and/or within a team environment.
Legislative and regulatory requirements are applicable to this unit. The primary legislative requirement of this unit of competency is the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL).
Being awarded this unit of competency is a necessary requirement to operate under the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) Fatigue Management Accreditation, but it is only one of the criteria.
Prospective applicants should check with the NHVR before undertaking training and/or assessment
20 Hours (Structured Training and Assessment). This course is delivered through structured online learning supported by trainer-facilitated virtual classroom sessions.
The 20-hour duration represents the nominal supervised training and assessment time required to achieve competency in this unit. Additional training may be provided where required to support competency achievement.
Delivery includes:
• Online learning modules via the Learning Management System (LMS)
• Trainer-led virtual classroom sessions
• Structured learning activities
• Supervised assessment tasks
While learners may progress at different rates, all participants are required to complete the course requirements within the specified enrolment period.
All assessment activities are conducted under the supervision of a qualified trainer and assessor to ensure authenticity and compliance with assessment requirements.
All prospective learners will complete a Pre-Training Review conducted via phone or video conference. This process ensures the learner understands the course requirements, entry criteria, expected outcomes, and commitment required. The review also identifies any individual learning needs and confirms the suitability of the training for the learner’s circumstances and goals.
Verification: The RTO reserves the right to verify the identity of the person enrolled to ensure they
are the person doing the course.
Attendance: Attendance at scheduled virtual classroom sessions is mandatory. Learners must complete all scheduled virtual sessions and required assessment activities within the enrolment period.
Pre-course- Before starting this course, you will be required to complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy and Digital (LLND) questionnaire. This quick questionnaire is used to determine your LLN
skill level so that we can best support you in your studies.
During the course- Students will be given access to their individual Learning and Management System (LMS) portal. Each portal will be resourced with all the required Learning and Assessment material.
Assessment may include answering questions in your workbooks or online, doing projects and practical tasks, some of which may need to be observed by a person in your workplace, or directly by your assessor, and may also include keeping a log of activities you complete in the workplace that your supervisor can confirm. Assessment activities are designed to reflect real workplace scenarios and comply with Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL) fatigue management requirements.
Pathway: This unit of competency forms part of the course for Certificate III in Driving Operations TLI31222
Career Outcomes: Graduates of this course will have the required skills and knowledge to apply fatigue risk management strategies and work safely within the Transport and Logistics industry.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL): Learners may apply for Recognition of Prior Learning in accordance with the RTO’s RPL Policy and Procedure. Evidence requirements will be provided upon request.
Completion: Participants who demonstrate competency to the required standard will be issued with a Statement of Attainment for TLIF0005 – Apply a Fatigue Risk Management System within 30 calendar days of successful completion and payment of all applicable fees.
In addition, this unit of competency supports the Basic and Advanced Fatigue Risk Management schemes requirement for Heavy Vehicles under the National Heavy Vehicle Accreditation Scheme (NHVAS)
